Starting Out

Hello there. I'm an aspiring computer engineer, and I want to start app development while I'm still in college.

Tizen appears to have a big future ahead, so I want to try it out; however, I'm a total beginner in the app development field despite having some programming experience. Can anyone give me a list of what I need, and how to start developing in Tizen? I'm looking forward to flexing out my programming muscles with Tizen, because it's on HTML5. I intend to go on graphics programming in the future (OpenGL), but I'd really like to start on things I already know. I want to be productive as much as I can. I hope I can help out in this community as well.

Hi Glenn Liwanag, For starting webapplication developement, you need basic skills on HTML and js programming . To start with tizen skd download follow the instructions mentioned in https://developer.tizen.org/downloads/sdk. In eclipse IDE, there is help tab, where you can find full information regarding the widgets and APIS supported by tizen or you can browse through https://developer.tizen.org/help/index.jsp?topic=%2Forg.tizen.web.uiwidget.apireference%2Fhtml%2Fpage%2Fapp_page_structure.htm To create sample web application choose Device API menu under tizen web project in eclipse while creating projects, there are several example apps like Alaram, Calendar, Bluetooth client/server , call, contact..etc it will help you in understanding how to create web applications.

Hi Glenn, I appreciate your enthusiasm. Yes, you can go ahead and start developing apps, as the knowledge of HTML5 is enough. You can download the SDK from tizen website (https://developer.tizen.org/downloads/sdk). Please refer to https://developer.tizen.org/ for developer documentation. I know the basic HTML5, CSS/3, and a good grasp on JavaScript. Thanks to both of you. I will have my Ubuntu partition up and running as soon as possible, as the SDK is not yet ready for the Mac OS X.
